Photography of Surajkund Mela is an unmatched experience. This is a unique international trade fair where you get to see people, artists, performers and handicraft items from multiple countries and Indian states. In the past two years of Surajkund International Trade Fair, I captured lots of international and Indian faces.
You need to visit the mela to witness yourself. I can only show the glimpse here and guide you how to reach/ navigate the place.
The trade fair is organized by Haryana Tourism in the month of February, between 1st and 2nd week of Feb. The mela will start on 2nd Feb till 16th Feb. The timing is 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Book your tickets online on BookMyShow website.
Every year, the Mela has a Theme State from India and a Theme Country. The theme state and country define the whole art, crafts and mood of the overall mela. The artwork and decorations are also done based on these theme states and countries. Every edition of the Surajkund Mela is unique, in tune with the themes.
Surajkund Mela 2020 theme state is Himachal Pradesh and the theme country is Uzbekistan.
The venue of the mela is very close to New Delhi, the city of Faridabad (it’s within the National Capital Region). You can hire a cab from whatever location you’re lodging in Delhi NCR. Uber and Ola services are good – if you’re not planning to bear the hassles of driving and parking your own vehicle.
As I said, I’ve been visiting the Mela for past couple of years and i love to photograph People: performers, artists and visitors. People are generally ok to get shot. You can get both staged and candid photos.
